- How do people respond to the challenges of urban living in developed countries?
- What are the opportunities and challenges created by urbanisation in developing countries?
- How can urban living be made more sustainable?
- Unit 2: Hostile World - Living with Natural Hazards

- What are the causes and effects of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions?
- What are the causes and effects of Tropical Storms?
- What are the causes and effects of Wildfires?
- How do people prepare for natural hazards and respond to them when they
happen?
- Unit 3: Investigating the Shrinking World - Global Tourism (25%)
- How has the global tourist industry grown?
- What opportunities are created by the growth of the tourism industry?
- How does tourism create challenges and conflicts?
- How can the tourist industry promote sustainable development?
- Unit 4a: Local fieldwork investigation (15%)
- This involves a day trip to collect fieldwork data. You then present and analyse your results and present conclusions. This is a controlled assessment which means the work is completed in lesson time and some of it under exam conditions (high control).
- Unit 2: Hostile World - Living with Natural Hazards (25%)
- What are the causes and effects of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions?
- What are the causes and effects of Tropical Storms?
- What are the causes and effects of Wildfires?
- How do people prepare for natural hazards and respond to them when they happen?
- Unit 4b: Geographical Issue Investigation (10%)
- This is a controlled assessment which means the work is completed in lesson time and some of it under exam conditions (high control). You will learn about an issue relating to either Energy or Water, research it independently and then write a report on it (approximately 800 words).
- There are two levels of entry: Foundation and Higher. At Foundation Level the grades available are C-G and at Higher Level the grades are A*-D. You can enter each paper for a different tier to best suit your strengths in Geography.
